The use of wrasse are popular as never before
Villa has for years been at forefront of developing efficient capture and use of wrasse in the fight against lice. Along with the Norwegian Institute of marine research and Marine Harvest Labrus we have a ongoing projekt on the use of wrasse for this purpose. As a direct result of this project we will soon receive about 1000 wrasses. Experiments in aquaria shows that the wrasse actually has to be trained to eat the lice. The manager of Villa`s Bio-Security team, Per Gunnar Kvernset, was earlier this year at AqKva Conference 2011 in Bergen. Here he spoke of the ongoing project. Kvernset belive that we already in 2015 will have control of the lice by the use of wrasse. In terms of biology, population and reproduction it`s still remain research and to succed in this the research has to be collaborative and coordinated.
