Organic Aquaculture
At present Villa is leading within organic production of salmon and cod. We therefore also feel extra responsibility for further development of cleaner and more sustainable feed, and efficient use of cleanerfish. At present, the market segment for organic salmon and cod serves mainly customers who are selective and pay high prices at home and abroad. It is not without reason that our best market at present is the US and the UK. We see that more and more people all over the world are beginning to be more aware of what they eat, and new markets for organic food are developing daily. Because of this, more and more resources are being put into operating with organic and sustainable production of both food and feed. That is why certifying agencies such as Debio, Krav, IFOAM and Naturland are so important, so that we can maintain this development towards a more environmental friendly production which can benefit generations to come.
What is organic and sustainable seafood?
Stricter consumer requirements regarding food, environment, cleanliness, additives, chemicals, medicines, focus on the fact that the animals have been bred in as close to natural surroundings as possible. Consumers who choose organic food are conscious consumers who wish to choose among products that satisfy their requirements and want organic certification to ensure this.
Research
Villa concentrates large efforts on research throughout the whole of the value chain. We co-operate with several organisations, suppliers and research environments and are also part owners in inter alia Patogen Analyse and Kyst Lab. We have co-operation projects with the Institute of Marine Research, Møreforskning, Ålesund University College, as well as Akvaforsk / Nofima. We want to concentrate efforts on the environmental friendly alternative and our objective is to deliver the cleanest and most natural fish on the market.

There has been increasing focus on organic and sustainable food for the past few years, through the media, politically and among ordinary consumers.
